Oy.
Another hike out in the dark. We keep staying at viewpoints to watch the alpenglow. Bob invited an acquaintence of his to join as well, an elderly gentleman who Bob stops and chats with on his bicycle jaunts around town.
We had it practically to ourselves. We met 2 hunting parties (bear, grouse) on their way out, and one hiking party of 3 exiting the summit as we were approaching.
The wind was icy-cold and cut the skin. Damn, it was cold on the summit. Hiked in short and tank top, but damn, it was cold on the summit.
I love Green Mountain.

Yeah, it was cold. You're pretty good at reading between the lines.
Har!
Pierrepont was getting his home ready for winter; he was working hard at collecting grasses.
I was impressed with the trail condition. It was excellent! With the massive amounts of feet that tromp it each year, it's holding up. Kudos to whoever's done recent trailwork. Hikers are taking care of it; the meadow area does have a few multi-tracks, but not many (and not disgusting-looking like at poor Goat Flats. ).
While at the meadows on the ways down, we stood a long time and listened to a whimiscal raven making my favorite raven sound; like that of a percussionists' wood block.

Lovely photos. Green Mtn is one of the best easy dayhikes and with forest, then meadows, then peaks galore what more could a person ask for?

I apologize for not being very clear in my write-up, but yeah, it was a mite chilly on the summit.
I'm sure my inability to convey a message is taking away from the gist of the trip report. I swear to God, they should take my english degree away from me. They probably would, too, if I could find it. I used it as a bookmark last winter. I'm sure it's in here somewhere....

The pictures!
Looks like it might have been cold, though -- at least on the summit.

I know you clubbed them. Look at the blueberries shot they are both crawling for their lives after being clubbed.
Pierrepont should get Photo of the year!! I love it. They are all good. Is it me or is the color this year spectacular?

Nice quark! I also love that one of the marmot with grass in his mouth. But not enough pictures of the icy peaks. Where the icy peaks? And did you admire the awesomely preserved lookout?
And how bout that drive there? I did that hike with a mild flu in June, and the worst part was actually driving there on the endless dirt road. Great day hike, but I'll never do it again. Just too far from Seattle to be worth it.

The only way to dayhike is later in the day. Gallons of people miss out on the colorful sunsets at the destination and instead view everything in harsh light. Hiking anytime is great, but staying until Mr. Sol drops is icing on the cake.
Summit1 and meadow3 are my favorites.
