Miss Normandy, I learned this trick from my father. Make sure your boots are dry, put them in garbage bags then stick them in the freezer for a couple of days. I guess the theory is that the freezing process kills the bacteria that makes your boots stink. I've tried it and it works! biggrin.gif WB

Sunshine works well too. Just arrange your footwear so as much sun as possible is shining inside. IR or UV light would probably work, too, but I've never tried it. I also find my feet stink less if I wear wool socks. BTW Wigwam makes some Merino Wool crew socks called Huskies that are much cheaper and much more durable than SmartWool.

Yeah, that's for sure. Maybe that's why they now feature some kind of odor-fighting stuff built into the footbed on their new models. I just bought a pair that hopefully will not reek as much as the older models- and I washed the darn things all the time to no avail.

My Chacos don't get stinky. I think the polyurethane footbed is less absorbant than the evazote used in Tevas. OTOH, Tevas are lighter.
