In the jewelry section of the Ballard Fred Meyer, there is a watch guy who's got a tiny shop. I've now had him do little repairs on two different alti watches, and the guy seems to know what he is doing. Never takes more than a few minutes, and not too $$. up.gif

Boy this Ballard Fred Meyer seems to be the center of the universe, just like Ballardites, Ballardians, Ballarders ??? think their community is! biggrin.gif It certainly seems to be the place for watch repair, cars driven by old figures with just the top of the head and knuckles atop the steering wheel in view, and...ahh we've heard them all a million times.

Yeah but you should try setting the time, now that you have a fresh battery. If you can figure out how, that is...

I'll step aside of that friendly dig at Quark and her watch to say these new-fangled watches nowadays can be a tad intimidating to friggin' "program"- I mean set the time and date on. biggrin.gif Thanks to a nwhiker's recommendation I got a Timex "Helix" altimeter/barometer/chronograph/timer/thermometer (and time and date!!). Gadzooks- what a device! It's like a metereology lab on your wrist! Of course with all that sophistication comes a steep learning curve, and a manual with the smallest print available in the world! If you don't need bifocals now you will after trying to read thru that sucker. But the "watch" did come in a nifty Faberge-like plastic egg container, undoubtably created to mock current environmental concerns, as it contained many plastic parts to further clog up our landfills-thank you Timex! down.gif Only time will tell if I will enjoy this thing.

Hey Quark, If you set your watch to a turned-off clock, then turn the clock back on, do you age less? If you keep it off, it'll be right twice a day, but now you are gonna be wrong all the time. If you stop your clock at getting-up time, then you'll never be late for work.

Well I sent my Timex back because of the sea level problem. Funny when I emailed their CS department, they said the fix for that was to set the thing 1000 feet higher than I really was, but I thought that was a pretty pathetic solution to the problem. That said, I thought it was very easy to use the thing once I figured out how to get it out of the Faberge Egg thingy. The instructions were full of mumbo-jumbo faux Hipsterese as well. rolleyes.gif Then someone was nice enough to lay an Avocet Vertech on me. biggrin.gif Seemed pretty Old Skool 'til I found out how easy it is to use and how it goes from -4000 feet to + 40000 feet in ten foot increments. That ought to be enough range. Plus it will count your ski runs for you so you can chestbeat in the pub after a hard day on the slopes. eek.gif

Mr. MooseAndSquirrel, that would be Freemont that is the center of the universe! Ballard is just a little norwegian fishing village in Seattle! lol.gif Hmmm...wonder if Ballard FM will touch my swiss army watch? Been too lazy and cheap to take it to the "authorized" person downtown to replace it for me...for over two years...don't worry quark...I'm slower than you about these things. don't mind me, feeling a bit feisty today

I stand with antlers & bushy tail lowered- my bad 'bout Ballard. Ok if Freemont is the center of the universe is Fremont the center of it's parallel universe? dizzy.gif

Marmot, I'd take it right over to Alex, located at the center of the vortex of Ballard. up.gif

Oh puhleeze...what have local comics had to mock on the Eastside? All the material is seemingly on the the other side of the lake or down in Kent. biggrin.gif Ok, we do have some goofy neighborhood names like Wilburton. We're boring, we're tame, so sue us, we have lawyers. moon.gif
