I think Tom and Michael have had this one on their "to do" list for quite awhile, but it does take more work from them, particularly if we don't want a noticeable slowdown in load time (and we don't).
Just to complicate it a little, I like a random photo display from a preselected group of pics. We do post some pics that aren't necessarily too great for "advertising" - my ??? pic that is one of a zillion similar, nameless marsh/lakes on the Tokul Plateau; Randy's "bathtub ring", etc.
Also, it's really one spot that does require an administrative filter of some sort, and the easier that is for the admins the better.

I think Backpacker Joe's wheelee picture would scare off all but the most stout hearted. My Civic is still whimpering after I showed her that picture. Won't even go near a road that has gravel on it now. If you want to use that Granite Lks picture, it needs some major clearification surgery.

Na, dont use that one it's for sale!!!
I was thinking all these gorgeous lake shots people have. One per week, or month!

The setup they've got in cascadeclimbers is nice, but I think it changes too often--every time you leave and enter you've got a new picture so you could cycle throught them too fast. I like the once a week or month concept. My opinion.

The lake's a keeper. Only, just to add to the admins' workload, I think we need a brief description with every pic. This is separate from our "Monday Blues" game and people looking at our "cover pics" will want to know, "what, where, and can-I-get-there?" - Not in detail, just PCT vs Pasayten wilderness Etc.

Much too fast IMHO. Maybe one a day, the kind of thing that's there long enough to spark a thread, or questions from "observers", etc. Ideally with a "recall" feature of some kind, so you can bring a specific picture back for fyrther discussion - or whatever.
See, I'm not the one who has to do it.

It's pretty safe to say that if we take all of man kinds accumulated knowledge, we still don't know everything. So, I hope you understand why I don't believe you know everything. But then again, maybe you do.

Depends on the photo. If it's big and it takes my dial up a significant amount of time every time I come in, don't want it. If shows a little known lake destination and invites traffic, don't want it. If it's your basic mountain shot or a tree lined trail, and it's small, s'ok with me. Ya asked for my vote, but the choices presented didn't cover enough ground.

My opinion is that we have enough lake pictures on this site already and really don't need another. My vote would be to place Tom's picture from his profile as the opening shot and call it good!

You can *never* have to many pictures. I love looking at other peoples photos. Especially if it's a pic of a lake I havent been to but want to go to.
