Two poachers were caught illegally hunting bear on the Mountain Loop. "Tracking armed hunters deep in the woods is terrifying, Cook said." http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20070814/NEWS01/708140339/0/BIZ01

I suspect a lot of poaching is going on....yesterday at Kelly Butte we had three folks come up in camo gear with binoculars and a high powered rifle with telescopic sight who said they were 'spotting for elk' I think if noone was around, they would have been hunting for elk. Two weeks ago, we met someone on the road who was "looking at a cougar" with a spotting scope who also had rifles in the rack.....I suspect they were hunting goat. (Which is illegal now, and especially at Kelly Butte as it is a game protection area.....) down.gif down.gif rant.gif mad.gif

It appears that the bear was in season, but they were baiting, which is illegal.

That is curious! Fish & Wildlife has many enforcment people. I wonder if these two women volunteered for that particular area?

Bear is indeed in season, but elk are not. Nor are deer and goats. Good for those cops for making the arrest! Baiting really is unsporting and unfair.
