I've been wondering for years if there was any way to do this thread, the situation where two (or more) different people, days or years apart, take perfectly parallel pictures of the same scene. The problem is the difference in time. The parallel practically has to be noticed the way Opus did in GaliWalker's Holy Oyster, Batman! (Chuckanut Mtn, 3/5/09) thread.

I'd just done the same thing a couple of days ago, when I noticed a remarkable similarity between a picture I'd taken several years ago and one Wildernessed posted this week in his Ancient Lakes - Dusty Lake Loop 2/28.
Basalt columns
Basalt columns
Got Crack ? - .Wildernessed
Got Crack ? - .Wildernessed
Those were a little more surprising, because they were taken far from any official trail, in an area where basalt columns were a dime a dozen. Several years ago, I noticed a pair that I thought was even more striking. Out at the end of Ptarmigan Ridge, I'd taken a picture of Mt Baker through The Portals. A couple of years later, dicey was out there and took a virtually identical pic.

The thing that's so remarkable about this pair is that they are taken from within a foot or two of each other ........ at an undefined point on an open snow slope about a quarter of a mile away from the nearest trail! There are some parallel shots that everybody takes. When you hike up the trail to Wallace Falls, you stop at the viewpoint and you take this pic of Wallace Falls.
Middle Wallace Falls

Everybody does it and there are literally hundreds of virtually indistinguishable versions out there. Everybody is channeled to the same spot, points their camera at the obvious subject, and presto! duplicate pictures. .......... I'm not talking about those. shakehead.gif What I'd like to see, over the course of time, is those surprising pairs, like the ones GaliWalker and Opus took, where the discoverer's reaction is, "Hey. I've got a pic like that!" agree.gif

Fun idea for a thread! Thanks Scrooge!

Tigerman took this shot from Poo Poo Point on Tiger Mountain on 10-15-08.
I was up there today and managed to get a shot from the exact same spot.

As with any thread, you are free to make of it what you will, but the original intent was fairly specific. It was not just "pictures of the same place" (perhaps showing how much the place had changed), but rather, "pictures of the same place" which are so surprisingly alike that they might almost be mistaken for duplicates.

The Rachor Creek Falls pair really don't fit this thread, since Aaron and I took them on the same trip from the same spot, just minutes apart. They ought to look alike! dizzy.gif But I wanted to emphasize the "similarity" factor.

The season and time of day are different (in addition to the obvious color versus B&W difference), but these two scenes are virtually identical.

Mt. Ellinor June 1983 (scan of an old print):
and a similar scene today:
Ok, so I took both photos, but they are 26 years apart. I'm a little different now than I was back then.
