Five of us got up bright and early Saturday morning and headed out to the Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center in Port Angeles. One of our hiking buddies had Mount Angeles on his "Smoot List" so thought it was a good day to tackle it.
We could see right away we did not need snowshoes (amazing lack of snow). We did use our ice axes and crampons as the snow towards the summit block was very compact and icy. We had a belay for protection on the rock climb. Beautiful views and a great day!!
Stats: 5.9 miles total
2350 feet ascent/descent

it's been totally weird seeing how little snow there is on the olympic mountains! glad you all had a fun time climbing

Planning on this tomorrow, but was thinking micro spikes not crampons--would crampons be better? Also was not planning to belay as olympic climbing guide says class 2 is this sandbagged or are conditions more difficult than normal for the rock?

Guessing microspikes would be just fine. We took a more challenging route up the rock but there is a class 2 section that you do not need belay. Should be a great day up there! Looking forward to your photos and report.
