On May 7 of this centennial of the North 20 Mile lookout, Chris Estrada, Allen Jircek and I participated along with several other trail workers in Phase 1 of this year's logout and tread work.
Allen leads the Methow Valley Trails Collaborative (https://trailscollaborative.org/) and is an astonishingly dedicated guy who definitely deserves your support, whether monetary, physical or both.
Subsequently, on June 3, Chris Estrada (AKA Trailchick https://www.trailchick.com/) and I logged out the upper three miles of the N20M trail in a 12-hour trailhead-to-trailhead effort involving a 12 mile round-trip and more than 4000' of elevation gain.
Big dirty jumble of logs, May 7, 2023 Ruined a chain clearing this one This snag ain't killing anybody on my watch; May 7, 2023 Guy on an E-bike and KarlK about 4 miles up the trail, June 3, 2023 About 5 miles up the N20 Mile Lookout trail, June 3, 2023
Contingent upon the wildland fire situation (in my case), Chris and I are aiming to paint the ground cabin lookout and do some fix-up in the next couple of weeks. We hope to recruit some additional volunteers.
I'd also like to direct some volunteers to Allen Jircek. Shoot an email to my inbox if you're interested.

Hey RichP please let me know if the recent winds have blown more snags onto the trail.

Thank you Karl for posting this update! I have many thanks to all of the volunteers who come out every year to keep this trail open, many who have done this far longer than me.
I just added a new post to the old blog showing photos of the hard work that goes into this trail every year. Thanks to fires and Mother Nature, the backlog of trail and road work in a National Forest as large as the Okanogan-Wenatchee is daunting. A dedicated group of volunteers can really make a difference!
And seriously, if anyone makes the hike to N20 this year for the centennial, drop me a message. I'm going to print "I survived N20" tee-shirts

I visited the North 20 mile lookouts today, there were only 4 trees across the trail. Thank you for all the work this crew has done!
