Just saw online that the Index Galena Road is closed for the season (?). Didn't know there'd be seasonal closures there.

That should be the section up and over the pass. Can’t particularly remember, but I think that was normally closed during winter. https://www.heraldnet.com/news/index-galena-road-mountain-loop-highway-close-for-season/

Here is the link describing the seasonal Index-Galena closure.

So they're closing it at Galena and again at the Jacks Pass turnoff. That's kind of an odd closure.

Starting in Skykomish, the Beckler River Road is King County. It then becomes a USFS rd. It becomes a SnoCo road at said eastern gate. Makes sense when you think about ownership and jurisdiction

We're not talking about the Beckler River Road. The Index-Galena Road is now gated at Galena by the County. Apparently there's another gate by the Forest Service beyond Garland at the Jacks Pass intersection so you can't drive over Jacks Pass and turn toward Troublesome.

Does not the Index-Galena Rd and the Beckler River Road make a loop over Jack Pass? The USFS does a winter gate at least on the Beckler River Road side, SnoCo gates the western side at each end of their jurisdiction

Beckler River road /Jack's pass has been self opening/closing for the last dozen years. Deep snow and tree fall usually happen. Latest ive ever made it up and over to blanca lake th was dec 16. Earliest was April 20th. Others extend the season. Not counting 2009, because it was plowed all winter. Road closure at troublesome still leaves that creek drainage as a cool snow shoe/ski destination.

Self opening and closing has been going away for years. In years gone by I’ve driven to Hubba Hubba , and to Colchuck TH. Now those opportunities disappear based mostly on the calendar

And the reason is.....people go way too early when roads are soft/muddy and tear up the tread, leaving big ruts when it dries. Since there is no longer a budget (or available equipment) for road maintenance, that causes major complaints later during the main season. They have a good point in my opinion.
