Why would he need to live like the people he wants to chaNGE. You want him to move into at 2200 square foot house?

nd the changes will hit us much, much harder than they hit him. When fuel prices rise, it smacks my budget hard. What does that do to him?
And here you tried to convince us that you were a libertarian. You are actually a socialist. Interesting.

My favorite thing about this thread is the title is cut off and it reads: I pledge not to be a... and the next line is the last posters name. I pledge not to be a rat I pledge not to be a marylou I pledge not to be a whistlingmarmot lol.gif

yes. he wants other people to move into smaller. he's supported urban zone development and forced planning of much smaller units than that, in the name of 'smart' development, and urges planning councils to make these zoned by law. he's spoken of intentionally taxing energy, in order to make it too expensive to heat larger homes and 'encourage' downsizing. if he's willing to use law to change other people's lives, why yes, he should. what makes him better than any one of us? are we the little people who change much, while his change is jetting 30 times a year instead of 55 or whatever?

Nice try, I would *never* support forcing people to do what he wants them to do. I'm examiing the moral basis of someone who wants to change the actions of billions of people, but will never live the effects of that like they do....especially by choice.

This is the very flavor of crap that got the Devil's Club shut down. I really, really like having a legit Stewardship forum here, and I would be really bummed if we lost it.

This entirely legit. No name calling. Rational discussion. No political parties. Ecology only. And a topic that makes you very uncomfortable.

No, I have nothing to be ashamed of besides the fact that I've posted on this stupid thread several times.

Sounds like a socialist to me. You want him to give up his "property" for some standard you claim he isn't living up to. You cherry pick info. You choose not to believe his claim "that he had changed his lifestyle and is continuing to do so." I think we know why you choose not to believe him.

This thread is on its way out folks. There's something to be said for walking the talk in stewardship. On the outside chance that the discussion aligns with those concepts going forward, it stays unlocked. If it becomes a debate on one or more political figures, well, you know.

Then please explain why this thread wasn't locked by one of the many moderators after the first (MtnGoat's) post? The original post meets none of the criteria you expect in this forum. Feel free to say, "you are right rat, we should have and we should have warned MtnGoat for his highly political post". Then lock it.

Because then people would whine about why it was locked. It's a no win for the moderators no matter what. I do agree though that this thread is very questionable. The reason I didn't lock it initially was I had no idea what MtnGoat was saying beyond the first sentence. embarassedlaugh.gif
