Is the road clear of snow...I know the snow level has been quite low. Anyone been up in there in the last couple of days?

Thursday evening, 12-2-22, snow was almost up to 18" on road, going by Valley Camp, and Mailbox parking.

I wonder if we would be able to make it (driving) to the Bessemer road? Or Granite lakes main trailhead?

Do they gate it at all, or is it just a free for all (with stuck cars, etc.)?

From the Goldmyer website:

Goldmyer is open.
The road is only plowed up to Mailbox Peak trailhead. 10-12" of snow on the road beyond that. |

Free for all. There is a gate where the Dingford Creek road branches off, but I've never seen it closed.

The Goldmyer access report is accurate so far. I'll add that if the snow conditions on the road lead to SAR calls like they have in previous years then King County has closed the road at the Mailbox Peak trailhead. I haven't heard about that happening yet for this event. This weekend is going to be warmer with no new snow so I expect the lower road will become more passable as vehicles put in ruts in the snow. But passing can be a problem if the ruts are deep.

Nothing a good set of Chains can't handle. Good set of modern Chains will get a sedan thru 8-10 inches of wet. Some brands boasting even more!! Even on steep slopes!! Let the Chains do the work.

Sure, chains do the work. Just make sure to bring a shovel when they don't. Every vehicle I've ever dug out of the snow had chains on.
