Tombstone is a place of tall stone monoliths, similar (from the pictures we’ve seen) to Torres del Paine of Patagonia, as well as other extremely rugged landscapes. We plan to take a helicopter to Talas Lake, then spend two nights each at three spectacular campsites. We scored backpack permits and have a helicopter reservation to be dropped off at the farthest lake (Talus Lake) for 2 nights, hike to Divide Lake for 2 nights, then Grizzly Lake for 2 nights, and then out to trailhead where our car will be positioned. One person from our group just needed to cancel, so we are looking for 1 or 2 people to join us. A pair of climbers could be a good match for our group, although we won't be climbing. We are driving up there (at least 4 days each way) and would have room for 1 additional person in car or you could fly to Whitehorse and rent a car or fly on to Dawson City (taking an additional day due to connections). Need to hear from people seriously interested very soon, or we will need to cancel our reservations. Much more info available if you are interested and able to do a 7-day backpack in a remote area. Weight is a limiting factor for the helicopter. Backpack is August 21-27, plus additional travel days. Leaving for Dawson City from Seattle area by car August 14 or 15. https://yukon.ca/en/hike-camp-tombstone#camping-at-tombstone-territorial-park and https://www.tombstonehelitours.com/packages This is a private trip and costs will be shared. Costs depend on # of people, but are approx $600/person for Yukon portion (if we have 1 additional person, less if 2) + travel costs to Dawson City. Cost would be less if you camp in Dawson City, rather than join us with our lodging reservations before/after backpack. Current trip members are older, reasonably fit naturalist/photographers and are not climbers or fast hikers and plan to explore on the extra day at each lake. There are grizzlies and the routes will be challenging in some areas. In the past two of our Canada backpacks utilized helicopter drop offs and the view from the air was great. We know this is very short notice, but are hoping 1 or 2 people can join us for another trip of a lifetime. Be sure to look at photographs of this astounding region, one of the best in North American. Coming with us will save you a lot of the angst of planning and we have permits. I have more info with details of the trip to send you if you are interested and able to do a 7-day backpack in a remote area. Lee & Karen Rentz. email: karen@leerentz.com

Cost will be less. We've decided to not rent a satellite phone and use our InReach devices instead.

Looks like the cost will be around $600 each if we have one additional person, less if we have two additional. Plus your transportation to Dawson City.
