I have the old free version from at least 2-3 years ago.
I don't use maps made by Avenza, preferring to use my own maps created on Caltopo, and just use Avenza to display the map and show my location, which works pretty well. I hesitate to update the app for fear that what used to work just fine for "generic" maps won't work anymore. But if the latest update is worthwhile, I may be willing to give it a go.
If you have the latest (or nearly so) version, how does it work? Is it a noticeable improvement over older versions?
I use Avenza 5.1.1 a lot (note: this is the app that USFS encourages us to use) and am really pleased with it.
I use it for tracking path and route distances, as well as being able to calculate direction and distance from current position.
