Dozens of local adventurers visit Poo every day. Most come via Chirico. Many have also came via High School. Some have accessed via the road. But only an intrepid few are aware of a fourth option -- the Rescue Trail. The summer before last my partner and I were hiking Poo when a couple instructors talked us into a tandem flight. Afterwards we met Mark Chirico who told us about a new trail the school was roughing in below the flight path to rescue crashed paragliders and invited us to try it out. I promptly forgot about it until a month or so ago when I was zooming in on Poo to try and see if it was actually the high point or if that was the nearby bump. Imagine my surprise when the Rescue Trail popped into view on the map. I came back a week later to study the route but it was gone, someone must have removed the data from OpenStreetMap. I've been meaning to check it out and finally had a chance tonight.

I much prefer it to the rocky busy Chirico Trail. It has more views of Issy and the valley as well as a better perspective of paragliders since you're beneath them on your way up. There's even a small grove of old growth trees around 1,200'. The only con is the truly absurd number of ribbons along the trail. It's roughed in pretty well now, they should probably be removed.

I noticed that trail when checking out the truck a few years back. Now I no longer wonder where it goes. Good to know!

Thanks for the tip. Didn't know it was there all these years. There was a thin layer of snow all the way up this morning. No shortage of blazing. At times every few feet. Can't lose this trail! Followed two recent foot steps but otherwise saw nobody even at the North launch and down the HS trail. Seemed to be just a bit longer than Chirico. Good option for a change of scenery.

Mosey and I went up again in the snow a couple days ago, so you probably followed our tracks. I noticed three more old growth trees before the grove I mentioned. We also followed bear tracks for a few hundred feet. I estimate it was ~9 degrees up top for sunset that evening.
