I found this page--particularly the last paragraph--very interesting and thought I'd post a link. Convex edges cut very well, particularly in wood, for a couple reasons. Among other things, they reduce the blade surface in contact with the media being cut and they act as a wedge, stretching the material at the edge. Convex edges also tend to stay sharp longer and are less prone to damage because there is more material behind the edge. Unfortunately, they can be hard to create and maintain if you do not know how. The linked page shows how to create and maintain a convex edge using an ordinary mouse pad and sandpaper. I followed the instructions to put a convex edge on an old but very sharp knife and the convex edge does perform better when cutting paper, cardboard and particularly wood. I'm posting this ifo here FWIW in case anyone else wants to try it...
