Terrific hike if you love waterfalls. Punchbowl and Tunnel Falls are special and it is one of the most interesting hikes near a metropolitan area (Portland) that I've ever seen. No bugs!!! A nice breeze and enough scenery to make the 15 miles we did saturday fly by in a flash. I highly recommend this one if you're looking for a conditioner or an excuse to make that camera of yours work overtime.
Eagle Creek trail is beautiful, but VERY crowded. Like a city park really. In the cold, wet months on a weekday you can pretty much be alone and the waterfalls are really wild! There are occasional wet weather slides that close the trail so be aware.
I did this one a couple years back in the late fall...didn't make it all the way to the tunnel due to all the mushrooms we were stopping for...but it was beautiful and i think we only saw one or two other people on the trail.
