Okay.. confession time. I almost backed the car over my hubby's daypack yesterday. It got pushed along the asphalt for a bit and there's a couple of scrapes on one side of the pack. It's a cloth bag (cordura) so there is one hole about 1/2 inch square and a bit of the fabric around a zipper cover and below that is not cut all the way through, but a few of the threads are roughed up.
I was wondering if what recommendations you have for patching up cordura. The main one I'm wondering about hole. Should we worry about the scraped areas weakening and eventually tearing?
Take it by the outdoor fabric store on the east side of Aurora. about 87th. They sell just about every known type of fabric, straps, fittings, etc. I'm sure they'll offer practical suggestions. Fun place to visit in any case.
I'll second Seattle Fabrics at 8702 Aurora Ave N. I do not sew but they have had every plastic clasp, hasp, or whatever that I have lost or broken on my outdoor gear. They are a great resource.
If you got it from REI, you *might* be able to exchange it for a new one -- their return policy is *that* good.
Also, they can probably point you to an employee (perhaps in their rental department) who can give you good advice.
I've got a rodent-hole practically in the center of the outside flap of one of my packs. After months of duct tape (one piece on each side), I had a patch (like a flag patch) sewn on. Since it's in a 'flat' area of the pack, it seems to work pretty well, though I still have a piece of duct tape on the inside.
Don't think it would work as well in a corner, and let us know what you find out about threadbare bits. Though cordura is pretty strong.
